Do I Really Need a Flu Shot?
According to the CDC, a flu shot is still the best way to lower your risk of getting the flu. The flu shot also helps reduce the spread of flu to your friends, family and co-workers.
How does it work? The flu shot causes antibodies to develop in your body that fight off the virus. Since it can take about two weeks for the antibodies to develop, the CDC recommends you get your shot by the end of October each year.
It is true the flu shot is not a 100% guarantee. However, it reduces the risk of getting the flu significantly. And if you get the flu after getting the shot, it can greatly reduce the severity of the illness.
